I BELIEVE

Addiction is a brain disease. It is a primary mental health disorder referenced in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition, as "Substance Use Disorder."

It can include mood altering substances such as alcohol and cocaine, plus mood altering behaviours such a sex, gambling, binging and purging.

Addiction is NOT:

  • A moral or ethical problem;

  • A personality disorder;

  • A choice.

Addiction is a no fault disease, with genetic and environmental causes.

All people are innately good, trustworthy and positive.  My clients are not bad people;  my clients are good people with a bad disease, a disease that kills.  With motivation, support and commitment, my clients are capable of making changes, arresting the addiction and living healthy and productive lives.

The following values are the foundation of my work; honesty, integrity, trust, emotional growth, personal development and authenticity.
