Comprehensive Alcohol/Drug Dependency Assessment and Therapeutic Plan
-
Are you concerned about your prescription drug use?
-
Are you noticing a loss of control associated with your drinking?
-
Would you like to look at your drug and alcohol use honestly?
Individual substance dependence assessments are offered to diagnosis drug addiction or alcoholism.
Using DSM V criteria (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) and ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Dimensions and The SASSI (Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory), this comprehensive approach can often identify a problem even when the client is reluctant to self-disclose. A follow-up meeting is arranged where the results of the assessments and screening are presented. A therapeutic approach is then established to move the client closer to their personal goals.
Individual Therapy Sessions
-
Are you unsure of your relationship with drugs and alcohol?
-
Are you seeking relief from emotional or psychological pain?
-
Are you ready to make changes in your life?

Based on a variety of therapeutic modalities, depending on the individual's needs, clients will be supported to address substance use along with co-occurring disorders. Given the right combination of safe environment and compassionate guidance, individuals can begin to examine and rebuild their lives. The unique challenges of high functioning individuals will be addressed.
The foundation of the therapeutic alliance is one of empathic understanding, acceptance and non judgment. Clients are heard, respected and understood with compassion. Collaboration and accountability support the recovery and growth process.
Family Therapy
-
Do you have a loved one who is struggling with drugs or alcohol?
-
Are you uncertain where to turn for help?
-
Are you concerned, afraid or ashamed because you suspect a loved one is developing an addiction?
Addiction is a family disease. Family involvement is the key to successful recovery.
Families are assisted in three ways:
1) Education on substance dependence - facts and fiction - understanding the realities of addiction can help modify the family member's role in relation to the person that suffers from the disease. When a family member can begin to detach with love and set good boundaries, the "family dance" can change and allow for new and healthy behaviours based on honesty and respect.
2) Intervention Consultation - families are advised on the option of a therapeutic intervention when deemed necessary.
3) Family counselling - can help support family members in their own recovery process as they heal from this disease.
Support Groups
-
Are you in the early stages of recovery?
-
Would you like increased support for your ongoing, successful recovery?
-
Are you required to attend an aftercare group?

Support groups are an important part of early recovery.
Research shows that those individuals who get involved and connected with others on the same path, have less risk of relapse. Group members benefit from insight and feedback of other group members.
Sharing and processing issues helps strengthen sobriety and reminds clients they are not alone.
Individuals interested in joining a support group can contact Lee at hausmann@rogers.com or call 416 278 4533.

Trauma + Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
-
Do you ever react with intense anger to insignificant triggers?
-
Have you noticed yourself being hypervigilant in some circumstances?
-
Do nightmares or flashbacks bring back the memory of a traumatic event?

Trauma and PTSD are a chronic and debilitating mental health disorder that has developed after a traumatic life event. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence based trauma-focused approach which is strongly recommended for providers who treat trauma and PTSD.
CPT as a trauma focused therapy means it directly addresses the memories of the traumatic event or thoughts and feelings related to the traumatic event. CPT assumes that following a traumatic event, survivors attempt to make sense of what happened, often time leading to distorted cognitions regarding themselves, the world, and others. In an attempt to integrate the traumatic event with prior beliefs, people often assimilate, accommodate, or over-accommodate the traumatic event. CPT allows for cognitive activation of the memory, while identifying maladaptive cognitions (assimilated and over-accommodated beliefs) that have derived from the traumatic event. The main aim of CPT is to shift beliefs towards healthy accommodation.
Intervention
-
Are you watching a loved one get sicker from the use of drugs or alcohol?
-
Are you witnessing an impenetrable facade of denial in a loved one's use of substances?
-
Are you ready to get honest with yourself, your family and the alcoholic/addict?
An intervention is an orchestrated attempt by one, or often many, people (usually family and friends) to get someone to seek professional help for their addiction or alcoholism. Lee Hausmann and her team can organize an effective intervention, with the support of family and friends, in a loving and receivable way.
